When you are Korean, you usually have a Korean name. Korean names usually have three parts: a family name, a generation name, and a given name. The family name is the same for all members of the same family, like Smith or Jones in English. The generation name is shared by all people born in the same generation of a family, like John or Susan. Finally, the given name is unique to each person and is usually two syllables long. For example, Moon Jung-mi is a Korean name. Moon is the family name, Jung is the generation name, and Mi is the given name.
