Kumejima-tsumugi

Kumejima-tsumugi is a special type of cloth that is made by hand on the island of Kumejima in Japan. To make this cloth, people use a special kind of silk called tsumugi that comes from a type of silkworm that is native to the island.

First, the silk is extracted from the cocoon of the silkworm, and then it is spun into a very thin thread using a spinning wheel. This thread is then dyed using natural dyes made from plants and minerals that can be found on the island.

Once the thread is dyed, it is woven together on a special loom to create the kumejima-tsumugi cloth. The people who make this cloth use their hands to weave the threads together very carefully and slowly to create a pattern on the cloth.

Each piece of kumejima-tsumugi cloth is unique and beautiful, and it can take many hours or even days to make just one piece. It is very special because it is completely handmade and uses only natural materials from the island. People in Japan and around the world love to use kumejima-tsumugi cloth for clothing, blankets, and other decorative items because of its beauty and quality.
