ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Kyoto Protocol

Okay, imagine you and your friends are throwing a big party at your house. Some of them are going to bring their toys and some balloons, but too many balloons can fill up your house and make it hard to breathe.

Now, if you were a country, it would be like every country is having a party and they're all bringing things that create air pollution, like factories and cars. Too much pollution in the air is bad for everyone and the planet, so grown-ups from different countries got together to figure out how they can stop it.

They made a special agreement called the Kyoto Protocol that says each country has to limit how much pollution they make. Each country has a goal to reduce their pollution levels and they have to report how they're doing.

This way, everyone will try their best to take care of the environment and make sure the air we breathe is clean and healthy for all of us.
