ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

L-moment

L-moment is a way to measure the shape of something. It is like adding up the different parts of a puzzle to figure out what it looks like. You start by measuring the lengths of the sides of a figure, or even the distances between points. Those measurements are called l-moments. Once you have all the l-moments, you can compare them to other figures and create an average, or a pattern that describes the shape of the figure. This average is called an l-statistic, and it can be used to tell how symmetrical something is, how concentrated it may be, and other features that can be seen in the figure—all without having to look at it.
