Lachish is a very old place that people used to live in a long time ago. It's like a big castle made of rocks and walls that people built to protect themselves from danger. People who lived in Lachish used to grow crops like wheat and barley, and had animals like goats and sheep. They also had big stores of food, like bread and fruits.
Lachish was very important because it was on a main road that led to other cities and places. This meant that people who traveled had to go through Lachish to get to where they wanted to go. Sometimes, bad people would try to come and take over Lachish, but the people who lived there would try to stop them.
One day, a group of bad people called Assyrians came to Lachish to fight against the people who lived there. The people in Lachish were very scared, but they tried their best to protect themselves. The Assyrians attacked Lachish with big weapons called battering rams, which were like giant logs that could break down walls. Even though the people in Lachish fought bravely, they lost against the Assyrians and Lachish was destroyed.
Today, people can still visit the ruins of Lachish and see the big walls and rocks that were left behind. It's an important reminder of how people used to live a long time ago, and how important it is to work together to protect ourselves from danger.
