Lacunarity

Lacunarity is a mathematical way to measure patterns in things like pictures, maps, and music. It looks for big empty spaces and big clusters of things, and it uses those to measure the amount of variety in the pattern. A pattern with a lot of big empty spaces would have a high lacunarity, and a pattern with lots of small things close together would have a lower lacunarity.
