Lafitte Projects
Okay kiddo, the Lafitte Projects are a big place where a lot of people live in New Orleans. It's like a neighborhood but it looks different than other neighborhoods because it has buildings with a lot of apartments and they're all connected together.
The Lafitte Projects were built a long time ago and were named after a guy named Jean Lafitte who was a pirate! He was born in France a long time ago and then came to America and became a pirate who would steal stuff from other ships on the ocean. Isn't that cool?
Anyway, now lots of people live in the Lafitte Projects and it's run by a group of people called the Housing Authority of New Orleans. They help the people who live there have a good place to live in because some people don't have enough money to pay for a house or apartment on their own.
The buildings in the Lafitte Projects can look a little old but the people who live there take care of them and make them nice. There are also places to play outside and parks where people go to have fun.
