ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lallans

Lallans is a way of speaking that some people in Scotland use. It's a mix of different Scottish accents and dialects, and can sound quite different from the English that you might be used to hearing.

When people speak Lallans, they sometimes use words and phrases that you might not have heard before. For example, they might say "bairn" instead of "child" or "wean" instead of "baby". They might also pronounce words differently, like saying "watter" instead of "water" or "hoose" instead of "house".

Some people really like speaking Lallans because it's a way of keeping Scottish language and culture alive. It's also a way of showing pride in being Scottish. But not everyone uses Lallans, and you might hear different ways of speaking depending on where you are in Scotland.
