Lamprais is like a special meal that people in Sri Lanka like to eat. It's like a big package, like a present! Inside the package, there is rice, usually mixed with some special flavors like spices and coconut milk, and maybe some vegetables like carrots, beans, or eggplant. Usually, there's also some meat like chicken or beef, and maybe even some fish or prawns.
The package is made out of banana leaves, like how you put a sandwich in a plastic baggie. But the banana leaves aren't plastic, they come from a tree! People clean the banana leaves and then use them to wrap up everything in the package. They tie it all up with some string so nothing falls out.
When the package is all tied up, it gets put in the oven or in boiling water. This makes everything inside hot and steamy. When it's ready, people can unwrap the package and eat everything that's inside! Because the rice has absorbed all the special flavors, it tastes really yummy. And because everything is cooked together, it all mixes together and tastes really good.
Lamprais is a special thing to eat in Sri Lanka because it takes a lot of time to prepare. It's like a treat for a special occasion, or just for when you want something really delicious!
