Lancashire Coal Measures

Lancashire coal measures are like a really, really big treasure chest filled with lots and lots of coal! They are found deep underground in the Lancashire area of England.

A long, long time ago, lots and lots of leaves and plants grew in this area. Over time, these plants went underground and eventually turned into coal! Can you imagine having so much coal that it was like a treasure chest?

Even though people no longer use coal as much as they used to, it is still an important resource for things like generating electricity and making certain types of steel. So even though the Lancashire coal measures are really, really old, they are still very valuable today!
