Okay, so you know how airplanes fly up in the sky and take pictures of things on the ground? Well, Landsat is a special kind of airplane that takes really cool pictures of the Earth's surface. And sometimes, the things that Landsat takes pictures of look like they're on an island.
But wait, what is an island? An island is a piece of land that is surrounded by water, like a big circle of water with the land inside of it. So if you imagine a shape on the Earth's surface that is surrounded by water, that could be considered a Landsat island.
Now, Landsat can take pictures of lots of different things on the Earth's surface, like forests, cities, and even oceans. Sometimes, the things it takes pictures of look like they're on an island, because there's water all around them.
For example, if Landsat takes a picture of a big forest in the middle of a lake, that forest might look like it's on an island, because there's water all around it. Or, if it takes a picture of a city on a small piece of land that's surrounded by a river, that city might look like it's on an island, too.
So even though Landsat isn't really looking for islands, it can take pictures of things that look like they're on islands. And those pictures can be really cool to look at and learn from!
