Langue de Barbarie

Langue de Barbarie is a big pile of sand that sticks out into the ocean in West Africa, in a place called Senegal. Imagine a long, narrow sand dune that stretches out into the sea like a tongue. That's what this place looks like!

People live on Langue de Barbarie and they use it for a lot of different things. They fish in the ocean, and they grow crops and raise animals on the land behind the sand dune. The area is really important for the people who live there, but it can also be dangerous. Because the tongue of sand sticks out into the ocean, it can be hit really hard by big waves during storms. If a big storm hits, it can wash away houses and things that people need to live.

That's why it's really important to study Langue de Barbarie and how it changes over time. Scientists are trying to figure out how the sand changes and moves, so that they can help people who live there be safe. They use fancy tools to measure the sand, and they also interview the people who live there to learn about how their lives are affected.
