Large-scale structure of the Universe

The large-scale structure of the universe is the way that galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and other objects are arranged in our universe. Our universe is so big that it is almost impossible to understand the whole thing, but scientists and astronomers have observed that galaxies are arranged in groups, each group containing hundreds and maybe even thousands of galaxies. They have also observed that galaxies can form clusters, which are huge collections of galaxies, and that these clusters are usually connected by giant strings of gas and dark matter. Finally, the universe can be broken down into even larger structures, called superclusters, which are made up of many clusters and galaxies. Scientists are still trying to figure out the exact pattern of these large structures, but it is clear that the universe is anything but empty.
