ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Largest prehistoric organisms

So, millions of years ago, there were some really big living things on planet Earth. Some of these things were so big that they were the largest creatures to ever exist!

Imagine if you took a really big elephant, and then made it even bigger - that's how big some of these creatures were! In fact, some of them were as tall as a five-story building and as heavy as 14 modern-day elephants combined!

One of these big creatures was a dinosaur called Argentinosaurus. It was so large that its head alone was as big as a car! Another animal that was really big was a sea creature called a Megalodon. This was a type of shark that was as long as a school bus!

These creatures were so big that they needed lots of food to survive, and they had to be really strong to move around. They may be gone now, but we can learn a lot about them by studying their fossils and imagining what it would have been like to see them up close.
