Larrabee (microarchitecture)

Larrabee was a microarchitecture introduced by Intel in 2009. It was supposed to be a powerful processor which could be used for games and other graphics-intensive applications. It had a slew of features, such as a high number of cores and vector registers/instructions. It also had very fast memory access capabilities and a wave memory architecture for better performance with multiple threads. Unfortunately, Intel canceled the project before it was released to the public due to several factors, including the steep cost of production and the difficulty of creating a chip with the desired performance. Despite never being put into production, Larrabee's ambitious design and potential applications have made it an interesting topic for computer scientists.
