The last Roman emperor was named Romulus Augustulus. He was the last Emperor of the Western Roman Empire, which ended in 476 AD. He was the son of Emperor Orestes, who made Romulus Augustulus the emperor when he was just an adolescent. When Orestes was killed by another group of people, Romulus Augustulus became the sole ruler of the Western Roman Empire. He was eventually overthrown when the Germanic leader Odovacer took over the Roman Empire and Romulus was forced to retire from his position as Emperor. This marked the end of the Western Roman Empire, and the beginning of the Dark Ages.
