Okay kiddo, so a long, long time ago there was a time when the world was very, very cold. We call this time the last glacial period.
Just like when you wear your warm jacket and boots in the winter to stay warm, the Earth also had a big winter coat that covered a lot of the land. This winter coat was made up of snow and ice, and it was so thick that some places had ice that was more than a mile thick!
Now, you know that the Earth moves around the sun, right? Well, it turns out that the Earth's path around the sun isn't perfect - it wobbles a little bit over a very long time. During the last glacial period, the Earth's wobbling meant that the places that were usually warm and sunny got colder, and the places that were usually cold got even colder!
This meant that a lot of the plants and animals had to move around to find new places to live where they could stay warm and find food. The people who lived back then also had to learn how to hunt and gather in new places to survive.
But don't worry, eventually the Earth came out of its cold phase and things started to warm up again. Now, some places that used to have the thick winter coat of ice are now warm and sunny beaches!
So that's the last glacial period - a time when the Earth was very cold, and the plants, animals, and people had to find new places to live to survive.
