ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lavabo

Lavabo is a fancy word for a special sink that is normally found in churches. When a priest or a pastor is giving a religious ceremony or a mass, they have to clean their hands before handling holy objects. This is where the lavabo comes in!

The lavabo is usually made out of ornate metal or stone and will have a basin where the water collects. Above the basin is a spout, which is connected to a water supply, and the water flows from the spout into the basin.

When the priest or pastor needs to wash their hands, they turn on the tap, and water flows into the basin. They then dip their hands in the water and use a small towel or cloth to dry them off.

In some religious ceremonies, the priest or pastor may also use this opportunity to say a special prayer or recite a scripture while washing their hands.

And that's all there is to it! The lavabo is simply a fancy sink used in religious ceremonies to help keep things clean and holy.
