Leadlight

Leadlight is like coloring with glass! Imagine you have a picture that you want to color, but instead of using crayons or markers, you use pieces of glass. You cut the glass into different shapes and colors and then put them together like a puzzle to create a beautiful design.

But how do you get the glass to stay together? That's where lead comes in. The glass pieces are connected by thin strips of lead, which is a soft, gray metal. The lead holds the glass pieces in place and gives the design a strong structure.

Once the glass pieces are all connected with the lead, you put a special putty called glazing compound between the glass and the lead to seal it all together. Then you clean off any extra putty and polish the lead so it shines bright like silver!

People have been making leadlight designs for hundreds of years. You can find leadlights in windows, lamps, and even in jewelry. It's a fun and creative way to make beautiful art with glass!
