ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Least objectionable program

Hello there young one!

Have you ever heard of TV channels? When we watch TV, we have many options or channels to choose from, right? Sometimes we might not like a certain TV show or channel and prefer others instead.

Now imagine having to choose only one channel to watch all day long, every day! That doesn't sound very fun, does it?

A least objectionable program, or LOP, is a TV show or channel that is chosen not because it is somebody's favorite, but because it is the one that bothers them the least.

So, let's say you and your siblings are trying to decide on which TV show to watch. You all have different preferences and can't decide on one show. Finally, one of you suggests watching a show that you all don't love, but also don't hate. You all agree to watch this least objectionable program so that nobody feels upset or left out.

It's a way of compromising and choosing something that everyone can tolerate, even if it's not their first choice.

Does that make sense?
