ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Left- and right-hand traffic

Okay kiddo, imagine you are driving your toy cars on a road with your friend. Sometimes, people in different countries drive their cars on different sides of the road. This is called left-hand traffic or right-hand traffic.

When we talk about left-hand traffic, it means people drive their cars on the left side of the road. In countries like the UK, Australia, and Japan, people drive their cars on the left side of the road. This means the steering wheel in their cars is on the right side. When you sit on the driver's seat, you have to use your left hand to change gears and your right hand to control the steering wheel.

On the other hand, right-hand traffic means people drive their cars on the right side of the road. This is the case in most countries in the world, including the USA, Canada, and France. So when you sit on the driver's seat, you have to use your right hand to change gears and your left hand to control the steering wheel.

It's important to remember which side of the road you should be driving on so that you don't have any accidents. So, always be careful when you cross the road and make sure to look both ways!
