ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Legalism (theology)

Legalism is like having a rule book that tells you everything you are supposed to do and not do. It's kind of like a game with really strict rules that you have to follow or else you get in trouble. In theology, legalism is the idea that following all the rules is the only way to be accepted by God. It means that if you don't follow the rules, you are a bad person and God will be mad at you. Legalism is not very fun because it doesn't leave any room for mistakes or being yourself. It's like living your life in a straight line without any twists or turns. While following rules is important, legalism can be harmful as it values rules over relationships and grace.
