ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Leipzig Jewish community

Okay, kiddo. Imagine a big group of people who all believe in the same religion. That's called a "community."

In Leipzig, a city in Germany, there used to be a group of people who followed the Jewish religion. They had their own synagogues (which is like a church for Jews), schools, and cultural centers.

But during World War II, the Nazi government in Germany didn't like Jewish people and started doing cruel things to them. They closed down the Jewish synagogues and schools in Leipzig and made life very hard for Jewish families.

Many people in the Jewish community were taken away to concentration camps or forced to leave their homes and belongings behind. It was a really sad and scary time.

Today, the Jewish community in Leipzig is much smaller than it used to be, but there are still Jewish people who live there and try to keep their traditions and culture alive. They have a new synagogue and community center, and they hold events and celebrations for Jewish holidays. It's important to remember the history of the Jewish community in Leipzig and to always treat people with kindness and respect, no matter what their religion or background is.
