ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lens (anatomy)

Your eyes are like cameras, and lenses are like the things in cameras that focus the picture. They are a part of your eye that helps you see things clearly.

So, imagine your eyes are like two little cameras behind big round windows (that's the front part of your eyes). Behind those windows, there's a part of your eye called the lens. The lens is like a little clear disc, kind of like a clear M&M, that sits right behind your big round window.

When you look at things, the light from those things goes into your eyes through the big round window, and then it goes through the lens. The lens helps to focus the light by bending it, and then sends it on to the next part of your eye so you can see the picture clearly.

It's like when you're playing with a magnifying glass outside, and you hold it just right and the sun's rays become very focused and hot – except the lens in your eye is always on, and it's helping you focus everything you see, all the time!

So, that's what a lens is in your eye. It helps you see things clearly by bending the light that comes into your eye, and sending it on to the next part of your eye.
