Lens flare

Hi there!

Have you ever seen those big, bright, colorful circles or streaks in a picture or when you look at a bright light? That's called a lens flare!

So, you know how when you look at the sun it hurts your eyes? That's because the sun is really bright and it can damage your eyes. When we take a picture or see a bright light, the same thing can happen to our camera lens or eyes.

A lens flare happens when light hits the camera lens or your eyes at a certain angle and gets scattered around. It can make some really cool looking shapes and colors! Like when you shine a flashlight through a glass of water and it makes a rainbow on the wall.

Sometimes photographers will actually try to make a lens flare happen in their pictures because it can create a certain look or mood. But other times it can be accidentally captured in a picture and add a fun element to the photo.

So, that's what a lens flare is - bright, colorful light that happens when light gets scattered around at just the right angle. Pretty cool, huh?
