ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lesson of Munich

Okay kiddo, so many many years ago, there was a meeting that happened in a place called Munich. People from many different countries came together to talk about how they wanted to handle some problems that were happening in another country called Czechoslovakia.

Some of the people at the meeting wanted to be really tough with Czechoslovakia and make them do things they didn't want to do. But, there was one country called Germany, and they said they just wanted to talk it out with Czechoslovakia and make a peaceful agreement.

Well, everyone else at the meeting thought that Germany was being silly and that they should be tough like the others. But, Germany said they really wanted peace and didn't want to start a war.

In the end, they made an agreement that everyone thought would make things better, but sadly it didn't work out very well. Some people were really upset with Germany for not being tougher, and it ended up causing more problems later on.

So, the lesson that people learned from this meeting in Munich is that sometimes it's really hard to know what the best thing to do is, and sometimes being peaceful isn't always the easy choice. But it's important to always be thinking about what will make things better for everyone in the long run.
