Okay kiddo, do you know what a rubber band is? It stretches when you pull on it and then it goes back to its original shape. Well, ligaments are kind of like rubber bands inside your body that connect your bones to other bones.
They are very strong and help to keep your bones in the right place so that your joints can move properly. For example, the ligaments in your knee help to keep your thigh bone connected to your lower leg bone so that you can walk, run or jump.
But unlike rubber bands, ligaments are not stretchy like that. They can only move a little bit before they get hurt. If you fall down or twist your joint too much, you could hurt your ligament. It might cause your joint to feel sore or even swell up.
So, it is very important to take care of your ligaments and always listen to your body. If you ever feel pain or discomfort in your joint, always tell an adult so they can help you.
