ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Light value

Light value is basically how bright or how dark something looks to us. Imagine you have a box of crayons and you want to color a picture. Some crayons are really bright, like yellow and orange, and some are really dark, like black and brown. When you color with a bright crayon, the picture looks bright and happy. But when you color with a dark crayon, the picture looks darker and maybe a little bit sad.

Now, let's talk about real life. Have you ever been outside on a really sunny day and seen how bright everything is? That's because the sun is giving off a lot of light which makes things look bright. But if you go inside a dark room, everything looks really dark because there isn't much light.

Light value is important in art because it helps artists create depth and realism in their drawings and paintings. They use different shades of light value to make some things stand out and others blend into the background. So, light value is how bright or how dark something looks and it helps make pictures look more realistic.
