Lightness (color) means how bright or dark a color is. Imagine you have a bucket full of paint. If you add a little bit of black paint to the bucket, the color will become darker and less bright. If you add a little bit of white paint to the bucket, the color will become lighter and brighter. This is kind of like when you turn down the lights in your room at night, it becomes darker and harder to see, but if you turn on a lamp, the room becomes lighter and easier to see. The lightness of a color can also affect how we feel about it, for example, a bright yellow might make us feel happy and energized while a dark blue might make us feel calm and comfortable.
