ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lightning tree

A lightning tree is a tree that has been struck by lightning. Lightning is a big spark of electricity that comes from the sky and can hit things like trees or buildings. When a tree gets hit by lightning, it can damage the tree and sometimes even kill it.

You know how sometimes when you rub your feet on the carpet and touch something metal, you feel a little shock? Well, lightning is like a super big version of that! It's so strong that it can travel all the way from the sky to the ground and even through things like trees.

Sometimes, when lightning hits a tree, it can leave a big scar on the trunk or even knock off some of the branches. But sometimes, it can also make the tree look really special and unique. Have you ever seen a tree with a zigzag pattern carved into the trunk? That might have been caused by lightning!

So, even though lightning can be dangerous and damaging, it can also make things in nature look really cool and interesting.
