ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Linguistic landscape

Linguistic landscape means looking at the different languages you see around you in a place. When you're walking around in your city or town, you might notice signs and writing in different languages like English, Spanish, Chinese, or Arabic. All these languages put together make up the linguistic landscape of that place. It's important because it shows the different languages and cultures that are part of that community. For example, if you see a lot of Japanese writing in one neighborhood, it probably means there are a lot of Japanese people living in that area. It's like looking at a big picture of all the different languages that people speak in a place.
