Okay kiddo, have you ever watched fireworks at night? You may have noticed that before the fireworks go BOOM, there's a tiny little spark that ignites them. That spark comes from a special stick called a linstock.
A linstock is like a long stick with a piece of cloth or rope tied to the end. People in the olden days used it to light cannons and guns. They would put the end with the cloth near a fire to light it up, then quickly move it towards the gun's touch hole (that's the little hole where they put the gunpowder).
Nowadays, linstocks are mostly used in historical reenactments or for firing cannons at special events. They're really important because without them, we wouldn't be able to light up those cool fireworks or fire those cannons at celebrations!
