Location-based service

Location-based services (also known as 'LBS') use information about where you are to provide you with helpful and specific services. For example, when you open up a navigation app on your phone, it will use the information about where your phone is to show you a map of the area around you and how to get where you want to go. GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites, wireless networks, and cellular signals can all be used by your phone to figure out where you are, and then the app can show you helpful things like the closest gas station, or the quickest way to get to the doctor's office.
