Lokta paper

Alright kiddo, today we're going to talk about lokta paper! Lokta paper is a type of paper that is made in Nepal, which is a country far away from here.

Now, how is it made? Well, first people collect the bark of a special tree called the lokta tree. They take off the outer layer of bark and then beat the inner layer with sticks to make it soft and pulpy.

Next, they pour the pulpy mixture into a big tank of water and stir it around until it's all mixed together. Then they dip a special frame, kind of like a sieve, into the tank and scoop up a layer of the pulpy mixture onto it. They tap the frame gently to get rid of any excess water and leave it to dry in the sun.

Once the pulp is dried, it becomes a sheet of paper! Lokta paper is really special because it's very strong and durable. It also has a really nice texture and look to it, with some natural fibers and mottled coloring.

People use lokta paper for all sorts of things, like making journals, cards, and even money envelopes. It's really neat that something so beautiful and useful can be made from a tree and some water!
