Louisiana (New France)

Louisiana is a very big place in America, and a long time ago it belonged to France. It was called "New France" because it was a new place they found. The French people who lived there spoke French and ate French food, just like they did in France.

Louisiana had a lot of different parts, with lots of different plants and animals. Some parts were swamps, which are like big wetlands with trees and mud and water all mixed together. Some parts were forests, which are like big parks with lots of trees and animals living together. And some parts were prairies, which are like big fields with grass and flowers.

The French people who lived in Louisiana traded with the Native Americans who already lived there. They traded things like furs and meat and food, and the French people gave the Native Americans things like pots and pans and clothes. This way, everybody could get what they needed.

After a while, Louisiana became part of the United States, which is a big country with lots of different states. But even today, you can still see the French influence in Louisiana. They celebrate Mardi Gras, which is a big party with parades and costumes and music, and they eat food like gumbo and jambalaya that are still very French.
