ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Lyot stop

A lyot stop is like a tiny shield that we put in front of a telescope or a camera to help us see things more clearly. It is a small piece of metal or plastic that blocks out some of the light that we don't want - like light from the edges of the image. This helps us to see more of the stuff we want to see that is in the middle of the image. It's like putting your hand over your eyes to block out the sun when you're outside. The lyot stop helps us take better pictures and see better things in space!
