ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Magnetic base

A magnetic base is a piece of metal that can attract other metal objects by using a special power called magnetic force. Think of it like a big magnet that can stick to other metal things, like a fridge magnet. Just like how a fridge magnet sticks to the refrigerator door, a magnetic base can stick to other metal surfaces.

This magnetic force is created by tiny particles called electrons, which are inside the metal. These electrons move around and create a magnetic field around the metal. This magnetic field is like a magic invisible force that can attract other metal things.

Magnetic bases are often used in tools and machines, like a drill or a dial indicator. By attaching a magnetic base to these tools, they can be attached to metal objects and be used to measure or drill precise holes.

So, imagine you have a magnetic base attached to a drill. When you put the drill against a metal surface, the magnetic force of the base will keep the drill in place and make sure it doesn't move. This makes it easier and safer for you to use the drill and get your work done.
