ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Magnum Concilium

Okay kiddo, imagine you are part of a really big group of people, like your entire class at school. Now imagine that your teacher wants to make a really important decision about your class, like what kind of field trip to go on. But your teacher doesn't feel comfortable making that decision alone. So, they call a special meeting of all the parents, teachers, and helpers at the school to help make the decision. That meeting is called a magnum concilium, which just means "great council" in Latin.

So, basically, a magnum concilium is a big meeting where important decisions are made by a group of people working together. This kind of meeting was used a lot in the Middle Ages, when kings and queens would gather important people like bishops and lords to help them make decisions about things like going to war or creating new laws. It was like a really fancy version of your teacher asking your parents for help making a decision for the class.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
