ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Manchu name

Okay kiddo, let's talk about Manchu names! Manchu is a language spoken by some people who live in China. When they give someone a name in Manchu, it's a little different than how we do it in English.

In Manchu, names often have three parts. The first part is the family name, which tells you what family someone comes from. The second part is the given name, which is the name the person is actually called. And the third part is the clan name, which is kind of like another family name that tells you which branch of the family someone is from.

So let's say there's a girl named Aisin-Gioro. Aisin-Gioro is her family name, and it means something like "pure gold." Her given name might be something like Nara, which means "sun" or "light." And her clan name might be Fiyanggu, which means "yellow banner."

So her full name in Manchu would be Aisin-Gioro Nara Fiyanggu. And if she had a brother named Aisin-Gioro Gendengge, his full name would be Aisin-Gioro Gendengge Fiyanggu. They would both have the same family name and clan name, but different given names.

Hope that helps you understand Manchu names a little better!
