Manicule

A manicule - also called a hand, index or pointing finger - is simply a little drawing or symbol of a hand with a pointing finger that people used in the olden days to help them find important parts of a book or text. Think of it like a tiny map to guide you on your reading adventure.

So imagine you're reading a really long book or a huge document with lots of information, and you're trying to find a specific section or important paragraph. It can be really difficult and tiring to keep going through all the pages trying to find what you're looking for. This is where the manicule comes in handy!

You would draw a little hand symbol on the side of the page, pointing to where the important information is. That way, when you come back to the book later, you can easily look for the manicule and know that's where you need to start reading from.

Today, people don't always use manicules because we have other ways to search for information, but they are still pretty cool to look at and can add a touch of class and history to any book or document.
