Maria Montessori was an Italian doctor and educator who developed a special way to teach and take care of children. Her “Montessori method” is based on the idea that children learn best when they're in an environment that encourages them to take initiative and be creative. The Montessori method also focuses on helping kids develop independence, concentration, and self-discipline. In a Montessori classroom, kids work independently and at their own pace. The teacher watches the kids in the classroom and helps them when needed, but does not tell them what to do. Instead, the teacher provides materials and the children choose activities that best suit their interests and abilities. Maria Montessori believed that kids should be given the freedom to explore and learn in their own way.
