Marine biology dredge

Hey kiddo! Do you know what marine biology is? It's the study of living creatures who live in the ocean, like fish, whales, and even tiny little plants.

One tool that marine biologists use to learn more about these creatures is called a dredge. Think of it like a big fishing net that is dragged along the ocean floor. The net catches all sorts of things like rocks, sand, and plants, but most importantly, it catches all sorts of animals that live down there too!

Once the net is pulled back up, the marine biologists carefully pick through everything that was caught and separate out all the living creatures from the rocks and sand. Then they can study these animals and learn more about how they live, what they eat, and how they interact with their environment.

Dredging is an important tool for marine biologists because it helps them to learn about the creatures who live in the deep, dark depths of the ocean where it's hard to explore. It's just like how you might use a magnifying glass to see tiny bugs up close and learn more about them.
