Married Women's Property Act 1882

Hey there kiddo, do you know what property is? It's the things we own like our toys, clothes, and house. Now let's talk about the Married Women's Property Act of 1882.

Back in the olden days, when a woman got married, everything she owned became her husband's property. This meant that if her husband died, she would lose everything and if they divorced, she would go back home with nothing.

But with the Married Women's Property Act, women were allowed to have their own property even when they got married. They could keep things they had before getting married and the things they earned or inherited while they were married. It also meant that if their husbands died or they got divorced, they could keep their own property.

This was a big deal because it gave women more freedom to own things and be independent. They didn't have to rely entirely on their husbands for financial support. It was a step towards equality for women and it helped them to be more empowered.
