ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Martindale (unit)

Martindale is a way to test how strong and durable things like fabrics can be. It's like playing a game where you rub something over and over again to see how tough it is.

First, we take a machine that has some rough material on it, like sandpaper. Then, we put the thing we want to test (like a piece of fabric) on the machine. We turn the machine on and it rubs the fabric with the sandpaper over and over again.

We count how many times the machine has rubbed the fabric until it starts to show signs of wear and tear. That number is called the "Martindale unit."

So, if a piece of fabric has a high Martindale unit, that means it's really strong and can last a long time. If it has a low Martindale unit, that means it's not as strong and might not last as long. It's like a test to see if things are tough enough to handle everyday use without falling apart.
