Marzanna

Marzanna is a traditional Slavic symbol that represents winter and the end of the cold, dark season. Imagine it as a big doll or scarecrow made with straw, and dressed in old, tattered clothes. People in some Slavic countries like Poland, Ukraine, and Belarus celebrate Marzanna by making their own version of this doll and then throwing it into the water or burning it on the stake.

Why do they do that? Before you start enjoying spring and the warmer weather, you need to say goodbye to winter and all the bad things that come with it. Marzanna reminds us of the harsh and bitter winter, so we need to get rid of it to make room for the new season. By throwing Marzanna into the water or burning it, people symbolically say goodbye to the old season and welcome the new one with open arms.

So, Marzanna is an old, traditional Slavic symbol that helps people transition from winter to spring as they say goodbye to the old season and welcome the new one.
