Mash ingredients

Mash ingredients are the different things that we mix together to make a special drink called beer!

First, we need some grains like barley, wheat or rye. These are the little seeds that you might see in your cereal or oatmeal. We put them in a big pot with some water and heat them up. This makes the grains softer and easier to mix with the other ingredients.

Next, we add some hops. These are kind of like little green flowers that grow on a plant. They taste bitter and help to balance the sweetness from the grains. We put them in the pot with the grains and water and keep heating everything up.

Then we add some yeast. This is a very special ingredient because it helps to turn the mix into beer! Yeast is a tiny little living thing that eats the sugars from the grains and makes alcohol.

We let everything sit and mix together for a few hours or even days, depending on the recipe. After it's finished, we strain out all the solid bits (like the grains and hops) and now we have a liquid called wort.

We can then add more water to the wort and yeast to start the fermentation process. This is when the yeast eats the sugars from the wort and creates bubbles and alcohol.

So, mash ingredients are the grains, hops and yeast that we mix together to create the wort, which eventually becomes beer!
