Matchcoat

Matchcoat is a very old-fashioned and fancy way of talking about a kind of jacket that was worn by people a long, long time ago. It was made from special wool cloth that was really thick and warm, which was perfect for keeping people toasty when it was cold outside.

The matchcoat was usually made in a kind of square shape that would reach down to the wearer's knees. It had a big collar that could be folded up to keep the neck warm, and it fastened up the front with lots of buttons. The coolest part of the matchcoat was that it had pockets- one on each side- for keeping things like keys and trinkets safe and sound.

Back in the day, people would wear the matchcoat when they were traveling around in horse-drawn carriages or on foot, because it was perfect for keeping them cozy and comfortable. Nowadays, people don't really wear matchcoats anymore, but they look really neat and can make for great costumes if you ever want to pretend like you're living in the olden days!
