ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Medal of Honor

Imagine you're playing a game like cops and robbers. You and your friends take turns being the "hero" who saves the day and the "bad guy" who causes trouble. Now imagine that instead of playing with your friends, you are playing with real soldiers who are fighting in a big, scary war. Sometimes good soldiers do really brave and amazing things, things that make a BIG difference in the war.

When someone does something that's really brave and helpful in the war - like saving someone's life or defending their team - they might be given a special award called a Medal of Honor. It's like a really fancy gold necklace with some special symbols on it. Getting this award is a really big deal and means that person did something truly amazing and brave, and people will remember and respect them for many years to come.

When someone gets a Medal of Honor, it's usually given to them in a special ceremony with other soldiers and important people watching. The person who gets the medal might feel really proud, but they might also feel sad or scared thinking about all the tough things that happened in the war. But even though they are just one person, they helped their team and their country in a really big way, and that's why they are being honored.
