Media Lengua

Media lengua is a way of talking that people in Ecuador use that is a mix of two different languages: Spanish and Quechua. Quechua is an ancient language that has been spoken in the Andes mountains of South America for a really long time.

Sometimes, when people are speaking in Ecuador, they mix a little bit of Quechua into their Spanish words. It's kinda like talking in Spanglish! For example, instead of saying "hola" (which means "hello" in Spanish), they might say "allillanchu" (which means "hello" in Quechua).

People use media lengua because it's a way to keep the traditions of Quechua alive while still using the language that most people in Ecuador speak, which is Spanish. So it's kinda like a secret code between people who know both languages.

But not everyone in Ecuador speaks media lengua. It's mostly spoken in the Andes mountains region, where Quechua is still spoken more often. And even if you don't speak Quechua, it's still fun to learn and use a few words in media lengua!
