ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Media-independent handover

Okay, imagine you have a toy car that can go on different surfaces like carpet or tile. Sometimes, you want to play with your car in one room and then move to another room with a different surface. When you move your car, it needs to switch from one surface to the other without crashing or stopping.

Media-independent handover (MIH) is like your toy car changing surfaces without stopping or breaking down. It's a special technology that helps your phone or computer switch from one internet connection to another without losing connection or slowing down.

For example, let's say you're using your phone to browse the internet at home on your Wi-Fi. When you walk out of the house, your phone has to switch from using Wi-Fi to using cellular data, but it needs to do this without stopping your internet connection. MIH helps your phone do this so that you can keep using your phone without interruption.

MIH helps your devices automatically find and choose the best internet connection available, so that you get the best possible experience when using the internet.
